The Devi Kavach (part of the Durga Saptashati) is a sacred hymn that invokes Goddess Durga to protect the devotee's body, mind, and spirit.
It describes the divine energy protecting different parts of the body and relates to subtle energy fields. When connected with Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture, the correlations arise from the energetic alignment of spaces, elements, and the human body. Here's how they are connected:
1. Connection Between Body Parts and Directions (Vastu):
In Vastu, the human body is seen as a microcosm of the universe, aligned with the five elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) and the eight cardinal directions. The Devi Kavach aligns specific body parts with divine protection, which can be seen as corresponding to Vastu directions:
Head (protected by Goddess Durga) → Northeast direction: Represents clarity and divine connection, aligned with the head chakra (Sahasrara).
Heart (protected by Mahalakshmi) → North direction: Represents abundance, emotions, and the water element.
Arms (protected by Chamunda) → Southeast direction: Represents strength, power, and the fire element.
Feet (protected by Vaishnavi) → South direction: Represents stability and grounding.
2. Connection Through Colors:
The Devi Kavach mentions colors and energies associated with different forms of the Goddess, which align with Vastu elements and directions:
Red (Fire): Associated with the Goddess’ fiery aspect (Chamunda, Durga), aligns with the Southeast direction (fire element).
Yellow/Gold (Earth): Representing abundance (Mahalakshmi), aligns with the Southwest direction (earth element).
Blue (Water): Signifying peace and purity (Mahasaraswati), aligns with the North direction (water element).
White (Air/Space): Representing divinity (Brahmani), aligns with the Northwest and Northeast directions (air and ether elements).
3. Protection in Vastu through Energies:
The Devi Kavach is a protective shield for the body, just as Vastu aims to create a protective shield for a home or space by balancing the energies of directions and elements. Key parallels include:
Protection of Entry Points: Just as the Kavach protects entry points of the body (eyes, ears, nostrils), Vastu emphasizes the protection of the main entrance and windows to ensure positive energies flow inside.
Alignment of Chakras with Directions: The Kavach invokes divine energy for the chakras, which can correspond to Vastu zones for balanced energy flow in the home.
Muladhara Chakra (Root) → Southwest (Earth/Support)
Anahata Chakra (Heart) → North (Water/Emotions)
Sahasrara Chakra (Crown) → Northeast (Spirituality/Space)
4. Practical Vastu Applications Inspired by Devi Kavach:
Colors in Rooms: Use colors mentioned in Devi Kavach based on directions (e.g., red in the kitchen, white in prayer rooms).
Placement of Deities: Align the direction of deity placement with their respective energies, such as Durga in the East or Southeast for protection and strength.
Energy Flow in Homes: Maintain a clutter-free Northeast (head/clarity) and ensure grounding elements like heavy furniture in the Southwest (feet/stability).
By integrating the teachings of the Devi Kavach and Vastu principles, you can harmonize your personal energy with the environment, creating a space that supports physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
10colors of Vastu
The 10 colors of Devi Maa and the 10 directions/colors of Vastu Shastra are deeply interconnected as both systems deal with energies that govern balance, protection, and prosperity. Each direction in Vastu represents an energy field governed by a particular element, deity, and color. Similarly, the 10 forms of Devi (Dasha Mahavidyas or other aspects) are associated with specific colors that symbolize their energies and powers.
