Happiness is a choice
By Roop Lakhani - 10:20:00
Have you ever paused and asked yourself — what does happiness really mean to me?
Is it the laughter that comes from a simple joke?
Is it the quiet satisfaction of a peaceful moment?
Or have we been taught to believe that happiness is something waiting for us in the future — when we get a bigger house, a better-paying job, a perfect relationship, or when we finally change our body?
Many of us grow up associating happiness with achievements and material milestones. We say, “I will be happy when…” and unknowingly postpone joy. We link our emotional state to external outcomes, believing that fulfillment will arrive once everything falls into place.
But what if happiness was never meant to be a destination?
What if happiness is not something you chase, but something you choose?
The Illusion of Future Happiness
Society often teaches us that success equals happiness. We are conditioned to pursue more — more status, more money, more validation. While material comfort can support our life, it cannot replace inner peace.
When happiness depends only on external circumstances, it becomes fragile. It fluctuates with outcomes, comparisons, and expectations. The moment something doesn’t go as planned, joy disappears.
This is not true happiness; this is conditional satisfaction.
The Shift Toward Inner Happiness
True happiness begins when we shift from external validation to internal awareness.
It lives in simple experiences: being present in a conversation,
laughing without reason,
feeling gratitude for small moments,
honoring who you are without constant comparison.
Non-material aspects — connection, authenticity, purpose, love, and inner alignment — create a deeper, more sustainable form of happiness.
When you understand yourself, your values, and your emotional needs, happiness stops being a distant goal and becomes a daily practice.
Happiness as a Conscious Choice
Choosing happiness does not mean ignoring challenges or pretending life is perfect. It means developing the awareness to respond rather than react.
It means asking:
Can I find meaning even in difficulty?
Can I appreciate what already exists instead of waiting for what is missing?
Can I create moments of joy right now?
Happiness is not about having everything; it is about experiencing life fully.
Practices to Reconnect with True Happiness
# Start noticing small moments of joy throughout your day.
# Practice gratitude for things you usually overlook.
# Allow yourself to laugh at simple things.
# Release the timeline that says happiness must come later.
# Reconnect with activities that nourish your soul rather than just impress others.
Today’s Reflection
What have you been postponing happiness for?
Which external goals have you tied your emotional state to?
What small non-material experience already brings you peace?
True happiness begins when you stop searching for it outside and start recognizing it within.
Today is an invitation to redefine happiness — not as a reward for achievement, but as a state of being you consciously choose.
To your happy state
